Detwiler Fenton & Co.'s Capital Markets team strives to provide unique, real-world investment research to the asset management community. We leverage the experience and perspectives of industry veterans, as opposed to traditional Wall Street analysts. Our Channel Notes® and The Channel Report™ are the research services provided by DFC and targeted to institutional investors who are looking for differentiated insight and analysis to help them gain a competitive edge.
Detwiler Fenton established coverage of the Technology sector in 1998, and we have offered our distinctive style of research for more than a decade. In 2008 we built on this foundation by adding coverage of the Consumer sector, and we are constantly exploring new opportunities to expand our platform and enhance our capabilities.
Our primary mission is to provide clients an impartial, accurate and real-time look into the Technology and Consumer markets. To achieve this goal we stay in close communication with a robust network of industry contacts to gather intelligence, which we then distill and formulate into valuable insight. In addition to our daily research note, many members of our knowledgeable and informed team are available for consultation to our clients to provide an in-depth take on topics of specific interest.
To keep our clients informed, our research team spends considerably more time in the field and on the phone with industry professionals rather than employing traditional financial analysis. We believe our distinctive approach presents perspective and insight that is not commonly available to Wall Street. Our model is based upon the following three principles:
We view ourselves as a hybrid of traditional Wall Street analysts and investigative journalists. As a result, we focus the vast majority of our research efforts on understanding current and unfolding events rather than trying to decipher the past or speculate about the distant future. Monitoring traditional sources and opinion helps us to establish a baseline for consensus. However our primary objective is to unearth new information that is either not well known or poorly understood. As a result, the information we uncover often challenges investor sentiment. Our focus is on what is changing now (in the real world), and how these developments might impact our clients' current and future investment decisions.
Our model is based on our belief that the best intelligence is acquired by talking to numerous sources to continuously form, validate and adjust an expansive view of the dynamic business environment. Maintaining contacts throughout the value chain enables us to constantly gather information and reality-check ideas, using our hand-selected network to construct, test and refine our unique understanding of the competitive landscape.
We believe that our model affords us a valuable capability to separate fact from fiction. We uncover fresh input every day from our sources including: changes in corporate or product strategy, shifts in the competitive landscape, layoffs, supply chain adjustments, and much more. Our objective is to analyze these real-world accounts and communicate them as critical threads in the overall fabric of major themes that can point to investable ideas.
